President's Message
Dear members and prospective members,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 Mid-State membership year! We have many exciting activities planned for teachers and students this year, including workshops, conferences, recitals, competitions, and non-competitive evaluations. We are also pleased to announce a new scholarship program for high school seniors to reward students who have studied with a Mid-State teacher for all four years of high school. These students will be given a monetary award and will be recognized along with their teacher at a Senior Scholarship Recital. Please go to the calendar on this website and mark all of these events on your calendar and make your plans to participate.
I am pleased to be serving as your president this year to finish out William Perry’s term after his move out of state. Thanks again to William for his good work as a leader last year. We will miss him and wish him well in his new endeavor.
I have been a Mid-State member for 40 years, serving as president previously from 1998-2002. I have also had the privilege to serve as president of District 9, FSMTA, and the FSMT Foundation. My life has been richly blessed by the friendships that I have made and the knowledge that I have gained through my work with all of these associations, and I hope that you will also find your life enriched and your musical knowledge enhanced by your associations with your colleagues in Mid-State and FSMTA.
Mid-State MTA was organized in 1974, so this is our 45th anniversary year. Since that time Mid-State has been hosting challenging student activities which bring public recognition to the accomplishments of students and to good teaching, high-quality continuing education opportunities for music teachers, and events and activities to promote fraternal relations, networking, and support for members throughout the Tampa Bay area and the state of Florida. We would welcome new members from the music teaching community. For further information, go to the FSMTA website at www.fmta.org and click on “Join”.
I am looking forward to working with all of you this year. Thanks in advance for all that you do to keep Mid-State and its activities running smoothly.
