MSMTA Program Etiquette Guidelines

(Download a PDF copy of the Program Etiquette Guidelines)

Preparation Guidelines
  • Once a student is scheduled to perform on a program, it is his or her responsibility to be present and punctual.
  • Performers should arrive 15 minutes before the start of the program and check in with the program chair.
  • Performers should wear concert attire: dresses, skirts, or dress pants for girls; dress pants and a button-down shirt for boys. No jeans or shorts are permitted.

Performance Guidelines
  • Approach and leave the bench from the front of the stage. Do not walk around the back of the bench.
  • Before you begin, find the pedals, adjust the bench and adjust the music rack if needed.
  • When finished playing, please acknowledge the audience with a smile and a bow.
  • Please bow only at the end of your performance.

Audience Guidelines
  • Everyone in the audience should refrain from talking, whispering and walking around while a student is playing.
  • Everyone is expected to remain for the entire performance unless a small child needs to be taken out.
  • Do not enter or exit through the doors while a student is performing. It is very noisy and distracting to the performers.
  • Videos and non-flash photos may be taken during the performance. Flash photography is allowed at the end of the program.
  • All cell phones and electronic devices should be silenced or turned off during the performance.
  • Eating and drinking is prohibited in the auditorium.

Thank you for your consideration and careful attention to these etiquette guidelines as established by Mid-State Music Teachers Association.
