Program: “Motion and Emotion”
Presented By: Rebecca Penneys
Rebecca Penneys coined the phrase Motion and Emotion many years ago as a way of making piano technique and interpretation one subject - - one expressive concept.
She relates physical motion and human emotion. Motion and Emotion is her focal point for exploring the physical, intellectual, emotional, and psychological relationships between mind and body. She combines technique and interpretation. Her students use Motion and Emotion to simplify, synthesize and solve technical and interpretive problems and to feel comfortable in their artistry. Come and delve into the pedagogue world of Rebecca Penneys. Before you come, check out her website at www.rebeccapenneys.com. Please join us for this exciting program, and let Rebecca Penneys take your musical performance to the next level.

Program: “Celebrating the Soul of Spanish Music”
Presented By: Dr. Olga Kuehl-White
“I call it the odyssey. That's how Olga Llano Kuehl-White describes her 20-year effort to research and edit accurate editions, with performance and interpretive suggestions for students and teachers, of the piano music of Spanish composers Isaac Albeniz and Enrique Granados.” That is a quote by John Flemming from an interview appearing in the Tampa Bay Times on September 4, 2010. He goes on to say “Her immersion in the works of Albeniz and Granados has given her an almost mystical sense of kinship with the composers, who were titans of Spanish music in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.” Come join Olga Kuehl-White, an editor for Alfred Publishing, as she takes us on a magnificent journey through her adventures in editing by getting right down to the soul of Spanish music.

Program: “Musical Interpolation”
Presented By: Dr. Jonathan Reed
Dr. Jonathan Reed says, “Musical Interpolation is the process of leaving out musical details of a piece (notes, dynamics, entire sections) and let the student fill in those details with their own musical understanding. Really, all you need is a copier and whiteout. Remove the concept being taught, and have the student experiment with different options (forte vs. piano, G vs. A, question vs. answer, etc.) before settling on something that "makes sense" and eventually reveal the textbook answer. This method leads to conversations about preferences, musical goals, patterns, and ideas often much deeper than simply learning notes on a page. The benefits for students are a viewpoint that music consists of options that composers must choose between. It opens up possibilities for exploring composition, recognizing patterns when sight reading, and improvising with options. Interpolation is student-exploratory learning with a teacher-guided outcome.” Please welcome Dr. Jonathan Reed as we join together to experience “Musical Interpolation.”
